We're excited to be back in Southside VA for the first time in five years, since an ill fated show at the 2011 Brunswick Stew Festival where we were lucky to escape with a check and a couple quarts of delicious stew.
We got the call to fill this date at the last minute. Come on down this Saturday for some great tunes, food and drink. If you've never been, Blue 5 has the largest selection of craft beer on tap in the region.
It's been a few years since we played a Roanoke nightspot, and it's always better when our friends come and join us!
Set time 12:00 - 1:15.
with guest bassist Tom Dorathy.
Ice House Band opens the show.
Wild Wednesdays are Back!
At Wintergreen Summer Music Festival, Wild Wednesdays encourage performers and audiences alike to kick back, have a glass of...something!, and hear some of Virginia's finest artists from a variety of genres. Some call it "pops" - some call it "casual" - some call it "different." We call it wild!
Here at WSMF, we are proud to welcome artists from around the world to our special place on the mountain, but we are equally proud to present the fine caliber of artists who call the Commonwealth home. From a Richmond artist whose song is considered the unofficial state anthem (and will hopefully be official soon!) to a Roanoke band that specializes in historic Americana music, Wednesday nights offer a Virginia-inspired wild night for everyone.
The lawn of the Martha Washington is a great place to pass a pleasant afternoon while we tour the musical backroads of the American south. We love heading to Abingdon to play for the good folks there, and even had some travel down from Roanoke the last time we were there.
We're back for another set at Community School's 35th Annual Strawberry Festival. Scott's sons attend Community School, and each year he organizes the entertainment for the event. He always appreciates the boys in the jug band lending their time and talents to help raise money for the school's scholarship fund.
Other acts this year include Einstein's Monkey (our bassist Jeff's kid's group), the Community High School Performance Band (led by professor of rock John McBroom), Dirty Rumours, and a rare performance from Roanoke psychedelic stalwarts Red Weather!
Live from the Shaftman Performance Hall Stage, inside historic Jefferson Center, The Floyd Radio Show hits the road to bring its original radio plays, comedy bits, ads, jingles, music and more to the Star City for one special night. Hosts Anna Roberts-Gevalt and Elizabeth LaPrelle bring together a new variety show for this special evening, writing and performing original material unique to our community and cleverly incorporating Roanoke Valley novelties, music and local celebrities into the skits and bits performed throughout the show. Come one, come all! Enjoy a rare opportunity to enjoy and even participate in the always original and forever entertaining Floyd Radio Show.
The Floyd Radio Show is rooted in Floyd, VA where a musical and artistic community provides endless inspiration for the show, which appears live at the Floyd Country Store on the first Saturday of each month, September through May. Anna and Elizabeth brought the first show to life in September 2011 to an appreciative and captive audience and now entering into its third season, the show promises to be better than ever!Writers for this show include: Beth Macy, Ralph Berrier, Liza Field, Ami Trowell
Musicians include: Herschel Sizemore, Rhoda Kemp, Elmer Cole, The Gospel Pearls, and Rootstone Jug Band
Students from: Community High School, Roanoke Children's Theater, and Music Lab at Jefferson Center
The set will be filled with shadow puppets and guest appearances from Mini Elvis from Mini Graceland, The Park Ranger atop Mill Mountain, and stories from the Roanoke Tribune's back issues, the lives of the Salem cowboys, and The Family of Texas Gladden.
We love Roanoke Natural Foods Coop! We've played this event in the past and it's big fun. They're having a ownership drive in October, so get on board if you're not already and come party with the jug band on October 19th.
